I’m Annie Hider and making things has been a constant in my life since I could hold a pair of scissors.

I’ve explored just about every genre of needlework and craft from sewing and embroidery to jewellery making, weaving, drawing and design.  But given the option, I sew everything by hand because its intimate, engaged and when sewing by hand, ‘the hand is directed not only by the eye but by the heart’1.

ak traditions grew out of a fascination and love for traditional textiles and cultural history and brings together my various passions. Every new design whether an felt doll or a wall hanging strengthens my affinity with women artisans of the past from different cultures who created life enhancing domestic textiles with such care. Tradition is not static, it evolves … but the spirit of the maker remains paramount just as it was in traditional cultures. Start your own tradition, let your spirit guide your needle and most of all, have fun.
